Social media should not be banned for under 16s

It’s not breaking news that people think social media is not a place for someone under the age of 16 years old. One of the arguments against it is that it keeps them from engaging with people in the real world and it exposes them to inappropriate content and among other things. But there are actually a lot of good reason your child should have social media such as they can keep in contact with their friends and make new friends through social media, it gives them independence and exposure of the real world and they can access the news and things that are happening in the real world, and social media is a massive thing and everyone is on a device with social media.

Your child can keep in contact with their friends. If children have social media, they can still keep in contact with their friends if they move schools. Kids are often happier when they are with or talking to their friends and if they didn’t have social media some kids would be alone. Some children have trouble making friends in the real world and they might make some friends through social media as well. This is one of the important reason as kids under 16 should be exposed to social media.

With your child having social media it gives them independence and exposure of the real world. With kids having social media they can find out what they like, what they want to do and be like and who they are as a person. Social media can help kids get new interest and have fun with them. It can also show them the real world and educate them on real life topics such as the news and through social media they can express their feelings or thoughts on topics. With this kids can have independence and sense of belonging. This is yet another good reason why kids should have social media.

Your child will be left behind in society if they don’t have social media. Social media and the internet is massive nowadays and your child will be left behind in society if they don’t have it. They could be excluded from their friend groups because nearly every person in the world has a piece of technology and social media. Technology is only going to be more popular in the future so why not just let your child use social media now.

One of the main arguments why children under 16 shouldn’t have social media is because it is pretty easy for them to access inappropriate explicit content. This is a problem but kids need to know that what they see is not normal and not real and it’s all fake. But on social media you can’t post something that has explicit so kids can only really find the content if they search for it on non-social media sites.

In conclusion I believe all kids under the age of 16 should all have access to social media as they can keep in contact with their friends, make new friends, gives them independence, exposure of the real world and kids would be left in society without it. That is why I think social media should not be banned for under 16s.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
